Thanksgiving - Back to the Earth
November has a way of slowing us down. The air cools, the work shifts, and gratitude shows up in the small things: warm meals, people we love, and a world generous enough to keep growing food for us.
Here at Earth Wake Foods, we believe Thanksgiving is more than a holiday — it’s a reminder to honor the land that feeds us. And if we’re going to celebrate it, we should do it in a way that makes the planet healthier, not worse. Food isn’t just a tradition — it’s a responsibility. That’s why every bag of Earth Wake dried fruit isn’t just a snack. It’s participation in regenerative farming practices — in healing the soil, supporting biodiversity, and building a cleaner food system together.
What’s Happening in the Orchard Right Now
Most people think farming slows down in November. Truth is — this is one of our biggest months of preparation. While the fruit trees rest, the soil comes alive. Here’s what our team is working on this month at the orchard:
Building soil with organic compost
We’re applying certified organic compost to the land — this season, it’s animal-based compost. Compost is more than fertilizer; it increases organic matter in the soil so beneficial microbes can thrive. Those microbes break down nutrients into elements trees can actually use. This living system builds fertility that lasts generations.
Cover cropping for biodiversity
We’re planting seeds now that we won’t even see until spring. These cover crops help store nitrogen, protect topsoil, and create habitat for beneficial insects — nature’s pest management team. We’re literally building future homes for pollinators right now.
Supporting soil as a living organism
Healthy soil isn’t “dirt” — it’s a complex, dynamic ecosystem. When we farm in ways that support soil biology, we protect clean water, draw down carbon, and grow more nutrient-dense food. That’s regeneration in action.
Can we create farming systems that make the Earth better — even without constant human intervention?
We believe the answer is yes.
This work is slow, sometimes tedious, always intentional — but it’s worth it. Because this is what it takes to bring real food to your holiday table. Not shortcuts. Not synthetic chemicals. Just biologically alive soil doing what nature does best.
Thanksgiving, Regenerated
This year, we’re grateful for:
-
Curiosity — the driving force that keeps us asking, “How can we farm better?”
-
The growing food awakening — more people are questioning ultra-processed diets and searching for real nutrition.
-
Other regenerative farmers & brands — we’re not alone in this movement, and that gives us hope.
-
The living soil beneath our feet — the quiet miracle maker of every harvest.
-
You — our community. Your support makes this work possible. Truly.
Because good food should tell a better story — one rooted in soil, honesty, and purpose.
Join us in building a healthier food system, one bite at a time.
